After reviewing the legislative text of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) released the following statement.

"A few weeks ago, in response to the Uvalde school massacre, I called on Congress to focus on a bipartisan process that could deliver meaningful results rather than repeating yet another cycle of partisan debate and advocacy for proposals that do not have sufficient support to become law. Time and again, that partisan approach has resulted in nothing getting done. This week, despite the doubts of many, the Senate has led the way toward common sense solutions that have both broad support across the country and will save lives.

"Assuming the Senate passes the legislation in its current form, I look forward to supporting the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act when it comes up for a vote in the House of Representatives. This legislation strikes the right balance between getting firearms out of the hands of violent offenders and those who have become a danger to themselves or others and protecting the Second Amendment and due process rights of law-abiding American citizens.

"I am proud of the leadership that Senator Susan Collins provided in negotiating the bill. And I am very appreciative of the principled and thoughtful role that David Trahan and the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine (SAM) board has taken in working with me on the recent proposals before the House as well as with Senator Collins as she worked on this legislation in the Senate. SAM sets an example in Maine, and for the nation, of how a responsible organization of strong Second Amendment supporters and sportsman enthusiasts can help lead our communities to find workable solutions that make our communities safer and keep our constitutional rights intact. This bill isn't perfect, but it is one that I am proud to support." -- Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02)
