The Lugar Center and Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy announced this week that Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) has earned a ranking of 7th out of 435 members on their Bipartisan Index for the 117th Congress (2021-2022). The Bipartisan Index is a non-partisan measurement of how often members of congress work across party lines.

"I know Democrats don't have all the answers. Neither do Republicans. That's why we have to work together. My constituents expect me to get things done for them and that requires putting the needs of the country and my district ahead of a political party," said Golden. "From passing the bipartisan infrastructure law to my bill expanding small businesses development centers, we've shown this Congress that working across the aisle is still the best way to get things done, even in a deeply broken Washington. I am proud to be among the most bipartisan lawmakers in Congress according to this nonpartisan analysis, and I'll continue to put country above party as long as I'm in Congress."

"Representative Golden's number 7 ranking in the House in 2021 places him among the bipartisan elite," said Dan Diller, Policy Director of the Lugar Center. "Over the years, the Bipartisan Index has repeatedly confirmed Maine's reputation as a bipartisan state. After strong bipartisan performances in both his first and second terms, Jared Golden is adding to Maine's high standard of leadership in Congress."

Since the 117th Congress began in January of 2021, Golden has sponsored 8 bipartisan bills and cosponsored 126 bills, over 80 percent of which were bipartisan. Golden's biggest bipartisan accomplishments from this Congress aim to address concerns of both Mainers in the Second District and Americans across the country.

Golden's list of bipartisan accomplishments is substantial. He passed bipartisan legislation to help more small businesses across the country launch, grow, and retain workers through the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program. He also has been a leading voice in the fight to uphold Title 42 until the Biden Administration can properly address an influx of migrants at the Southern Border, sponsoring two bipartisan bills on border security. Golden also led his colleagues across the aisle in pushing for a ban on stock trading for members of Congress.

Golden was at the forefront of efforts to get the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed through the House. The bipartisan infrastructure framework he and his colleagues in the Problem Solvers Caucus developed was the basis of the blueprint agreed to by the White House and Senate negotiators two weeks later and passed through the Senate.

Golden is also a co-chair of the For Country Caucus alongside Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02), a bipartisan group of military veterans dedicated to working across party lines for the good of the country.
