Amendment offered in Appropriations Committee Markup on Emergency Supplemental Bill
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Martin Olav Sabo (D-MN) today will fight for additional homeland security funding to address known weaknesses. The full Appropriations Committee will meet to discuss the Emergency Supplemental bill for Iraq, Defense and Hurricane Recovery, which is expected to go to a vote in the full House of Representatives next week.
Sabo's amendment calls for $3.4 billion more to improve terrorism prevention and disaster preparedness capabilities. He believes that the terrorism and disaster risks we face justify the additional spending proposed in his amendment.
"I urge members to support this amendment," Sabo said. "If we are serious about making investments based on risk, these funds for port, border transit and aviation security are sorely needed."
