Congressman Anthony Brown: Americans Deserve The Full Truth

Statement

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement after this evening's hearing by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol:

"The January 6th insurrection was an attack on our democracy, Constitution, and the American people. It was fomented by the twice impeached former president, Donald Trump, his enablers and violent extremists with one goal -- to overturn the results of a fair and free election. While they failed in this effort, the toll they have taken on the lives of Capitol Police Officers, staff and countless others that day is immense, as is the damage they have inflicted on our democracy. The American people deserve answers and tonight the Select Committee revealed the beginnings of their investigation in vivid and unsettling detail.

"With more than a thousand interviews and 140,000 documents, the House is providing the American people with the full story of that terrible day: How the President of the United States stoked extremists and white supremacists to attack our Capitol and those within, in order to undermine the basic tenants of our union.

"Our democracy remains in jeopardy and Congress must act to ensure the very foundations of our democracy remain strong. This evening is the start of ensuring full accountability."
