Congressman Anthony Brown: When We Say "Enough Is Enough" We Need To Mean It

Statement

Date: June 1, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement on Baltimore's announced lawsuit against Polymer80, one of the country's largest manufacturers of "ghost gun" kits.

"It's long past time we hold companies profiting off gun violence and targeting minors accountable for their actions and the lives their products have taken and shattered. We've seen too many preventable tragedies and too many families ripped apart. When we say "enough is enough' we need to mean it, and follow through on our words with concrete action to enact real change. Tackling the epidemic of gun violence in our country and in our communities takes committed public servants at every level to take action to get these dangerous weapons out of our neighborhoods. I applaud Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott's leadership to get these illegal firearms off our streets. We have to keep using every tool available to us to keep families safe."

The Maryland General Assembly's legislation banning the purchasing, transfer, or sale of any firearm or unfinished frame or receiver that isn't imprinted with a serial number became effective today, June 1, 2022. By March 1, 2023, no one may possess a "ghost gun."

Baltimore joins a growing list of cities suing Polymer80. D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine has previously filed a lawsuit against the company, and last year Los Angeles also took the company to court.
