Issues: Foreign Aid

Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) released the following statement after voting to pass a $40 billion bipartisan emergency supplemental package to provide military, humanitarian, and economic aid for the people of Ukraine. The legislation will now be sent to the President's desk to be signed into law.

"Today, the United States sent a strong message to Putin that America stands firmly with the Ukrainian people in defense of their home and their democracy. For nearly three months, Ukrainians have braved an unprovoked and unjust invasion. The outcome of this war will have enormous consequences for the future of democracy and the rule of law around the world. It is vital that the United States continue to support Ukraine not only to protect our strategic interests, but to preserve the fundamental freedoms that we hold dear.

"This additional funding provides strategic military support to help Ukrainians continue to defend themselves, as well as funding to help alleviate the global food shortages and humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian invasion."
