Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6968, the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act, with Congressman Timmons' support. Congressman William Timmons (SC-04) released the following statement:

"Despite sanctions from the U.S. and other nations, Russia continues to wage war in Ukraine. The Biden Administration's initial sanctions stopped short of a ban on Russian oil. Last night, the House voted on legislation to suspend Russia's energy imports. I supported this additional step because I fully believe the U.S. is capable of meeting all of our energy needs here at home once Biden ends his anti-American energy policies. This episode has shown that achieving and maintaining energy independence is paramount for our economic and national security.

"We need to take strong action against Putin's murderous regime. Innocent women and children are dying on the streets of Ukraine. Over the weekend, President Biden stepped in to stop a stronger bipartisan, bicameral bill to further decimate Russia's economy, including revoking trade benefits Russia has enjoyed since the fall of the USSR. Now is the time for forceful action, before Putin further escalates the bloodshed."
