Congressman Joe Wilson issued the following statement in response to the Russian Foreign Ministry's announcement of sanctions on a list of members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

"My record in support of democracy is clear. I have long been a critic of Putin and his oppressive regime, which is why I am already on a Russian sanctions list. Now, with his murderous invasion of Ukraine, I continue to lead legislation that supports the Ukrainian people such as the "Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022' which expedites the process of getting military equipment to Ukraine. Additionally, well before the invasion, as the Ranking Member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, I introduced a bill to end recognition of Putin's rule as legitimate president after his term ends, in keeping with Russia's constitution. I stand with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine."
