Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) today released the following statement in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"On Holocaust Remembrance Day, we mourn and honor the six million Jews and countless other lives lost or forever changed during one of the darkest chapters in human history.

"77 years after Allied forces liberated countless Jews from horrific evils, disturbing displays of antisemitism and bigotry are still all too prevalent. From antisemitic or racially motivated hate crimes to inhumane treatment of refugees to the bombing of Ukrainian hospitals, the United States must defend human rights, stand up to fascism, and refuse to tolerate racism, bigotry, or violence in any form.

"In the words of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, "For the dead and the living, we must bear witness. For not only are we responsible for the memories of the dead, we are also responsible for what we are doing with those memories.' Today we carry forward those memories and recommit to ensuring the horrors of the Holocaust are never repeated."
