Tillis Co-sponsors Bill to Prevent Spying by the Chinese Communist Party

Press Release

Date: April 29, 2022
Location: Washington, D.C.

This week, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) co-sponsored the Protect America's Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act. This legislation will reestablish the CCP Initiative at the Department of Justice (DOJ), which the Biden administration recklessly ended last month - reinstating its effort to investigate and prevent spying by the Communist Party of China on U.S. intellectual property and academic institutions and to counter threats to U.S. national security. This is vital to ensure America's continued dominance in all areas of innovation, especially emerging technologies, through continued enforcement of strong intellectual property rights.

"The Chinese Communist Party poses a serious threat to our national security and intellectual property, and this is not the time to let our guard down," said Senator Tillis. "We must do everything in our power to counter the Chinese Communist Party's ultimate goal of overtaking the United States as the world's top superpower. Reestablishing the CCP initiative at the DOJ is a move in the right direction to combat the Chinese Communist Party's surveillance on our IP and protect our nation's innovation and critical infrastructure."
