Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06), co-author of the Give Our Athletes Level Salaries (GOALS) Act, issued the following statement after the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT) reached a deal with the U.S. Soccer Federation on a new collective bargaining agreement that ensures equal pay with the men's national team.

"Today is the culmination of years of hard work and advocacy from the powerful and dedicated women of the USWNT," said Congresswoman Matsui."This is a historic day -- both for women's sports, but also for the millions of young women and girls who have been inspired by our team to speak out and be the next generation of leaders. I introduced the GOALS Act to stand firm with our USWNT to demand what they deserve, and end pay discrimination at the highest levels of sports. Today, these athletes have permanently changed the narrative and actively reshaped our country for the better. Despite the long road to get here, our nation's stars never wavered in their commitment -- neither can we."

"The players of the USWNT have achieved extraordinary accomplishments, but the workplace struggles they faced are shared with women across our nation," Matsui continued. "That is why we must continue to be vocal, and we must continue to push for the changes that we want to see. We cannot stop with this victory for our nation's team. There is much more work to do. I will continue to fight to end pay discrimination, permanently close the wage gap, and ensure women of all backgrounds have equity in the workplace."
