Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Congressional delegation concluded its engagements at the Ninth Summit of the Americas:

"Our powerful Congressional delegation, 26-strong came to the Summit of the Americas to reaffirm the Congress' unwavering support for our partnerships with our neighboring nations, which are crucial for promoting security, prosperity and democracy -- in the Hemisphere and around the world.

"Our Congressional delegation congratulated President Biden, Vice President Harris and Secretary Blinken on a productive and unifying Summit, recognizing the importance of strong bonds in the Western Hemisphere to America's security and success. When we met with President Biden today, we thanked him for his strong leadership in uniting the region around a bold vision for a just, resilient and sustainable future.

"At our morning meeting with Secretary Antony Blinken he emphasized the primary themes of the Summit: the economy, the pandemic, the climate crisis, migration, food insecurity, digital transformation and more. With Special Climate Envoy John Kerry, we discussed further opportunities to work with our regional partners to preserve our environment and advance a clean energy future, as climate disasters take a brutal physical and economic toll across the Americas.

"At the Summit, our Members had the privilege of attending plenary sessions, where we heard firsthand from many world leaders and appreciated the beautiful diversity in our Hemisphere. Participating nations renewed our commitment to building a sustainable, resilient and equitable future. We also recognized how Russia's outrageous, unlawful invasion of Ukraine has further exacerbated these issues and explored how our nations can mitigate these impacts at home while supporting Ukraine in the fight for freedom.

"Throughout the day, our Congressional delegation held a number of bilateral meetings. In our meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, we agreed that the special friendship between our nations will remain crucial to promoting democratic institutions and values. With Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry, we discussed the imperative of strengthening security and stability in Haiti to allow for democratic elections, and working together to improve humanitarian conditions for the Haitian people. The delegation met with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness to discuss the climate crisis and international climate funding, as well as community resilience, regional development and support for women. With the Chilean President Gabriel Boric and Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola, our delegation discussed the importance of advancing democracy and human rights, and addressing issues related to indigenous people and women.

"Let us also salute our Host Member, Congressman Jimmy Gomez, as well as the City of Los Angeles, for warmly welcoming our delegation and leaders of our neighboring nations this week."
