Today, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chair of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, issued the following statement after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed new climate disclosures rules. The new disclosure requirements would require public companies to disclose climate-related information critical for investors to understand material risks to companies.

"To protect Americans and our economy from climate change, we have to understand how climate risk affects our businesses, workers, and communities. The SEC's proposal is a step forward and would establish for the first time consistent data frameworks, balancing the need to accurately evaluate market risks while ensuring small businesses aren't overburdened," said Brown. "I applaud the SEC for acting to address climate risks to protect workers, investors, and our economy."
