With gas prices sky-high in Iowa and nationwide, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a relentless and longtime defender of biofuel, today questioned President Biden's pick for a key administration position who had previously been critical of the merits of biofuel and the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

Ernst questioned Joseph Goffman, who Biden has picked to be Assistant Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Air and Radiation--which has jurisdiction over the RFS--about his past comments saying the RFS is "not successful" and an "uncertainty plagued mechanism for providing subsidies to the ag sector."

Ernst has long pointed out that ethanol and E15 provide a more affordable choice at the pump for consumers and has called for American produced biofuel to help replace demand left by oil from Russia that's been banned since their invasion of Ukraine. She has said that Biden's biofuel agenda has amounted to "promises made, promises broken."
