U.S. House Appropriations Chair Rosa DeLauro applauded the United States Senate confirmation of Associate Attorney General Vanessa Avery to be Connecticut's next U.S. Attorney, making her the first Black woman to serve as the state's top federal law enforcement officer. Avery grew up in New Haven and is a graduate of New Haven Public Schools.

"Vanessa Avery's confirmation as the first Black woman to serve as U.S. Attorney for Connecticut is monumental for our state and our community," said Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. "As a daughter of New Haven, I could not be more proud to see her serve in this well-deserved role. Her experience working across Connecticut, her lifetime of service, commitment to this community, and expertise makes her exceptionally qualified to serve the people of Connecticut. I look forward to working closely with Avery.

Avery has served as the Chief of the Division of Enforcement and Public Protection at the Connecticut Attorney General's Office since 2021, and as an Associate Attorney General since 2019. A native of the Newhallville neighborhood of New Haven, Avery attended Yale University for her undergraduate degree and earned her law degree at the Georgetown University Law Center.
