This morning, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) joined members of the U.S. House and Senate for a bipartisan call with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. President Zelenskyy provided members of Congress with an update on the latest news regarding Ukraine's fight against Russia's lawless invasion, and an overview of how U.S. lethal defense aid and the increasingly severe sanctions regime has strengthened their efforts thus far, but impressed upon Representatives and Senators that Ukraine needs more assistance. After the call, Rep. Courtney issued the following statement.

"I joined colleagues from both sides of the aisle in the House and Senate this morning on a Zoom call with President Zelensky," said Rep. Courtney. "He is an inspiring leader, as the world now knows, and he once again gave a powerful, smart rundown of Putin's mendacity--the Russian onslaught has indiscriminately struck civilian targets such as universities and kindergarten schools, and fifty Ukrainian casualties are children."

"President Zelensky was grateful for the military assistance that Ukraine has received from the U.S. so far, and he made clear to us that they're in desperate need for more," Courtney continued. "His plea, I hope, will help with a quick vote next week for $10 billion more in military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine. President Zelensky also praised the increasingly severe sanctions regime against Russia, but made it clear that it's time for all countries, including the U.S., to cut off Russian oil imports to our nations He's right--let's cut them off."

Yesterday, Rep. Courtney shared an update on how U.S. defense aid has strengthened Ukraine's resistance against Russia's invasion. Click here to watch.
