Rep. Barry Moore warns of Biden scheme to divert VA resources to illegal immigrants

Statement

Date: April 5, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Today Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives revealing the consequences of President Joe Biden's decision to end President Trump's Title 42 enforcement that the administration acknowledges will result in a flood of illegal immigration. Recent reporting revealed that the Biden administration is considering redeploying medical professionals from the Department of Veterans Affairs to the border, robbing our veterans of much-needed care.

Moore's remarks as prepared are below, as is additional background on Title 42 and the border crisis. Click here for high-resolution video of Moore's floor speech.

"President Biden is planning to lift President Trump's successful Title 42, a tragic decision that will endanger every American's safety.

"But recent reporting further exposes the devastating consequences of President Biden doubling down on his Far-Left open-border agenda. Not only will Biden's reversal welcome in countless new illegal immigrants, but Biden wants Americans to pay to vaccinate them!

"But it gets worse. According to this report, the Biden administration is even considering pulling medical personnel from the Department of Veterans Affairs to assist at the border, taking much-needed medical care away from our veterans. Our veterans!

"I ran for office because our veterans are not receiving the care they've earned. That's why I asked to serve on the Veterans Affairs Committee. These reports should outrage every patriotic American, Republican or Democrat.

"We must never prioritize foreign citizens illegally entering our country over our veterans. Title 42 must be maintained."

BACKGROUND

In the wake of President Biden's dismantling of border security, Title 42 is the last tool available to law enforcement to adequately enforce laws at our border. 55% of the total encounters in February at the Southern Border were processed for expulsion under Title 42, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data. Biden's reckless decision comes as CBP warned the historic surge at our border is already worsening in anticipation of the rollback and has received bipartisan backlash in Congress.

A record of 9,000 illegal immigrants were encountered at our borders from March 28th to 29th this year. The U.S. will soon hit 1 million illegal crossings of our borders in just the first half of this fiscal year, which began 6 months ago in October. Over 300,000 illegal immigrants evaded Border Patrol in just the last 6 months -- 62,000 in March alone. CBP warned that this number includes "known gotaways," and that the true number is most likely much higher.

According to new U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data, there were 164,973 migrant encounters at our southern border in February, up 7% from January, a 63% increase from the previous year. 30% of those encountered at the border last month had also been encountered at least once in the past 12 months. 76% of those apprehended were single adults -- an 11% increase from January. This was the worst February on record in over two decades.

According to the annual Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) report, the Biden administration dropped deportations by roughly 68% last year.

Since Biden took office over 2 million illegal immigrants have been apprehended at our southern border.
