Issues: Transportation

Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined the Ways and Means Select Revenue Measures Subcommittee for a hearing to examine the economic impact of federal infrastructure investment.

"When I-84 and I-91 were built they blocked Hartford from its river and cut off the North End, now the city's poorest zip code, from the rest of city. The isolation created by the I-84/I-91 interchange displaced massive communities not only in Hartford, but in East Hartford as well. The I-84/91 interchange is the number one chokehold in Connecticut and New England and when you add in our levees that are in a state of disrepair, this creates an enormous problem," said Larson.

"The bipartisan infrastructure law allows for a major investment in communities like Hartford. With this funding, we can address the isolation, displacement, and the need for integrated intermodal transportation that reopens economic opportunity along our riverfront and in North Hartford."
