Rep. Payne, Jr. Encourages New Jersey Families to Apply for Home Energy and Water Assistance

Press Release

Date: March 8, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. is promoting more participation in New Jersey's Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Low Income Household Water Assistance Program. These are federally-funded programs to help low and moderate-income households pay for energy and water bills throughout the year. But only a small percentage of eligible households are utilizing these programs. The LIHEAP could even assist households with weatherization and energy-related home repair costs. Locally, both programs are coordinated through New Jersey's Department of Community Affairs.

"I encourage more people to take advantage of these programs to save money during these difficult economic times," said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. "These are federal assistance programs to help New Jersey residents pay for heating, cooling and water bills this year. My offices are able to help people qualify and apply for this funding. I hope more of my constituents sign up for them to stay warm this winter and cool this summer."

The income for a New Jersey household of four people or less to qualify for assistance must be lower than $6,439 per month or $77,268 per year. New Jersey received $4.5 billion in the American Rescue Plan to support the programs, so apply today!
