On Wednesday, March 16th, U.S. Representative Ken Buck (CO-04) introduced legislation to address the surge in counterfeit merchandise by strengthening the authority of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to share information with rights holders on suspected counterfeit merchandise.

"Counterfeiting is big business. As the world of commerce bounces back from the COVID-19 pandemic, we must take steps to protect consumers from the possible harm of counterfeit products, as well as protect the authenticity of intellectual property rights owners.

"This legislation amends the Tariff Act of 1930 to allow our Customs and Border Protection agents to disclose information to rights holders about suspected counterfeit merchandise and allow our agents to play a larger, more effective role in combatting the growing counterfeit industry," said Rep. Buck.
