Congressman Dan Kildee, Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, Congressman Bill Pascrell, Chairman of the Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee, and Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, issued the following statement after workers at a Panasonic plant in Mexico reported harassment and mistreatment:
"Reports of workers being fired in Mexico for trying to form an independent union, as well as the denial of independent election observers, are very troubling. Thanks to House Democrats, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement included a first-of-its-kind Rapid Response Mechanism to protect the rights of workers. As members of the Ways and Means Committee, we will be watching the vote closely for any reports of violations, and we will pursue enforcement actions if necessary to defend the rights of workers."
