Kildee Applauds Over $10 Million for Public Transportation in Mid-Michigan

Congressman Dan Kildee, Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today applauded the delivery of $10,382,118 in federal funds for mid-Michigan to upgrade and strengthen public transportation in Genesee County.
This funding, made possible because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which Congressman Kildee supported, will allow Flint Mass Transportation Authority to buy new buses, address repair backlogs, modernize its fleet, and provide Genesee County residents with safe, reliable and efficient public transportation.
"When we invest in upgrading our local transportation infrastructure, we improve accessibility and reliability for families and seniors who rely on public transit to go to work and the doctor and see family," said Congressman Kildee. "This investment is yet another example of how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law delivers for Michiganders. In Congress, I will continue to work to bring federal resources home to mid-Michigan."
These federal funds will also help create good-paying Michigan manufacturing jobs, in addition to the 10,500 Michigan manufacturing jobs created since January 2021 thanks to Kildee-backed "Buy America" requirements that apply to steel, iron, and other materials necessary for transit projects.
Transportation systems have suffered from decades of underinvestment, causing delays and disruptions for passengers. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law represents the largest-ever investment in public transit across Michigan and the country. In February 2022, Congressman Kildee announced $4.6 million in the first round of new federal transit funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to strengthen public transportation and make urgently-needed upgrades to facilities and vehicles. Kildee also secured $19 million in federal funds for the Flint Mass Transportation Authority to operate, maintain, and manage the public transportation system during the coronavirus public health emergency.
