Senator Markey's Statement on Republican Obstruction of Abortion Rights Legislation

Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement after every Senate Republican present voted to block a vote on the Women's Health Protection Act, H.R. 3755, legislation that would protect the right to abortion throughout the United States in the wake of the Supreme Court decision on Texas's abortion law.

"Today we saw yet another coordinated assault by Republicans on reproductive health and freedom. Abortion is essential, life-saving health care. We cannot allow Republican obstruction to stand in the way of an individual's Constitutional right to abortion. In order for Congress to take the necessary action to protect the right to abortion, we must abolish the filibuster and codify Roe v. Wade into law."
