Date: March 30, 2022
Location: West Chicago, IL

Today, Congresswoman Underwood co-hosted a cybersecurity briefing with Illinois Chamber of Commerce, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to help Illinois businesses prevent, identify and respond to malicious cyber activity. This briefing comes at a time when American companies face increased risk of cyber attacks associated with Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

"As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, I know the attacks we've seen over the past year have emphasized the urgent need to modernize our approach to securing our critical infrastructure," said Underwood. "Business leaders play an essential role in our national security. By taking steps to harden their companies' cyber defenses and mitigate risks, business leaders are making our nation safer."

The briefing was on CISA's Shields Up guidance, which CISA issued following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Evolving intelligence indicates that the Russian government is exploring options for potential cyber attacks. Shields Up recommends all organizations, regardless of size, to adopt a heightened posture when it comes to cybersecurity and protecting their infrastructure. The briefing also covered how businesses can report cyber attacks to the FBI.

Organizations should report anomalous cyber activity and/or cyber incidents 24/7 to report@cisa.gov or (888) 282-0870. If you or your organization is the victim of a network intrusion, data breach, or ransomware attack, contact your nearest FBI field office or report it at tips.fbi.gov.
