Cantor Votes to Pass the Children's Safety and Violent Crime Reduction Act

Bill will Help Track over 12,000 Registered Sex Offenders in VA

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA-07) released the following statement today regarding the House passage of H.R. 4472, the Children's Safety and Violent Crime Reduction Act.

"The sexual abuse and exploitation of children is one of the most vicious crimes conceivable, and one that has the highest rates of criminal recidivism. The Children's Safety Act will help protect children in our communities by forcing convicted sex offenders to register with their local communities and allow citizens to easily find out if there are any registered sex offenders in their neighborhoods."

"This legislation will help local and state authorities track and account for registered sex offenders in Virginia as well as throughout the United States. Currently there are over 12,000 registered sex offenders in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The passage of this bill will help ensure that our children are receiving the adequate protection they deserve while our communities receive adequate notification about the presence of sexual predators in our neighborhoods.
