Schakowsky Statement on New CAFE Standards for Vehicles

Statement

Date: April 5, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, reacted to the recent announcement by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on new Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards to lower vehicle emissions. These standards implement President Biden's executive order to make America a leader on clean cars and combat the climate crisis.

"I applaud NHTSA on these new emissions standards that will increase fuel efficiency by 33% by 2026. That means filling up less often at the gas station and more money in consumers' pockets.

"Climate change remains an existential threat, and steps like this one, which will save 200 billion gallons of gasoline through 2050, are vital to protect our environment. This is just another example of President Biden delivering on the green future we and our children deserve."
