Sinema-backed Bipartisan Bill Makes Access Technology More Affordable, Empowering Blind & Vision-impaired Arizonans

Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored the bipartisan Access Technology Affordability Act -- legislation that creates a new refundable tax credit for blind and vision-impaired Americans needing "access technology," which are devices, software, or other technology that make it possible for blind and low-vision Americans to participate more fully in school, work, and other aspects of daily living.

"Making critical technologies more affordable and accessible for blind and vision-impaired Arizonans empowers them with more independence and expands their ability to access education and job opportunities so they can thrive," said Sinema.

The Sinema-backed Access Technology Affordability Act presents empowering opportunities for Americans who are blind and vision-impaired. Access technologies can include adapted computers, text-to-speech software, and electronic Braille displays. Many insurance companies do not include coverage of access technology as they are not recognized as a medical cost.

This bipartisan legislation provides a $2,000 refundable tax credit that would help offset these costs and make access technology more attainable for blind and vision-impaired Arizonans.
