Congressman Van Drew Issues Statement on Democrats Complete Lack of Leadership

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement regarding Democrats' lack of leadership across the nation and the recent event that resulted in thousands of people being stranded on America's most used interstate, I-95.

"Last week, thousands of motorists were stranded in freezing temperatures for more than 24 hours - many of which ran out of gas, food, and water," said Congressman Van Drew. "Democrat Governor Northam knew in advance that this snowstorm was coming, and he did not implement any kind of emergency orders to ensure the safety of those traveling on this major highway. Part of his job description as governor is to ensure the safety of his citizens, and rather than taking responsibility for his mishandling of this crisis, he blamed those that were stranded instead. This is not leadership, these are excuses. The American people should be able to look to those who were elected to represent their interests during a time of emergency and receive adequate responses, not be blamed for a situation that was completely botched by Virginia leadership.

"Further, Vice President Harris ironically tweeted that 'America is moving again' in the midst of this gridlock on I-95. This goes to show how out of touch Democrat leaders are with the American people. Instead of focusing on passing a massive social tax and spend spree that provides funding for tree equity, hiring IRS agents to spy on bank accounts, and increasing Americans' taxes, they should focus on protecting their citizens. I-95 is the eastern seaboard's most major thoroughfare. The American people are paying more for tolls and taxes than ever before, yet received no help from Virginia leadership for over 24 hours. This shameful example of leadership is literally putting lives at risk and is completely unacceptable."
