U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) released the following statement on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's address to Congress:

"Today's address from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was an impassioned plea for American leadership in the face of unspeakable evil. I was deeply moved by his words and by the plight of the Ukrainian people as they face unfathomable hardship.

"President Zelenskyy's remarks exemplified the bravery of the Ukrainian people in the defense of their country. The disturbing images of death and destruction illustrated the cruelty of Vladimir Putin and his indiscriminate and criminal assault on men, women, and children who simply wish to live free and live in peace. For all who watched, this address should serve as a stark reminder of the role our nation must fill in safeguarding democracy and human rights around the world.

"Last week, I joined many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in calling on President Biden to urgently mobilize U.S. support for Ukraine, including measures to bolster their air defense capabilities, strengthen economic sanctions against Russia, and deliver humanitarian aid to those who are suffering. Providing this assistance, as well as the $13.6 billion in aid that Congress passed last week, is a moral imperative.

"We must do more to support our allies, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure we do so before it is too late."'
