Sinema, Kelly: $1.6 Million in Housing Grants Awarded to Hualapai and Yavapai-Apache Tribes

Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly announced that Hualapai and Yavapai-Apache tribes will receive $1.6 million in housing grant funds, providing affordable housing assistance to recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The resources were provided through coronavirus relief legislation that Sinema and Kelly shaped and helped pass into law.

"A healthy community requires affordable housing and safe community buildings. We helped secure today's critical funding for the Hualapai and Yavapai-Apache Tribes to help house their members and recover from the coronavirus pandemic," said Sinema.

"I've been working since day one to get tribal communities the resources they need to respond to and recover from this pandemic. The funding we secured will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and support families by providing critical housing assistance to Hualapai and Yavapai-Apache communities," said Kelly.

The Sinema and Kelly-shaped American Rescue Plan Act provides millions of dollars for the Indian Community Development Block Grants Program, which provides a range of affordable housing and community development activities on Indian reservations and Indian areas.

The Hualapai Tribe will use their $1,035,000 grant to acquire five new trailers, which will help alleviate the housing shortage. The Yavapai-Apache Nation will use their $600,00 grant to renovate 13 community buildings where services are provided to Tribal members.
