Date: March 21, 2022
Location: Kingston, NY
Issues: Veterans

On Saturday, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) joined Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan, Senator Michelle Hinchey, and members of the local veteran community to address and vocalize concerns with the recently proposed recommendation to close the Castle Point VA Medical Center (VAMC). Congressman Delgado highlighted the need to keep services open and accessible for the Hudson Valley veterans who rely on the care offered by Castle Point.

"Closing the Castle Point VAMC without first clearly establishing a replacement facility that provides equally accessible services of the same or higher quality is unacceptable," said Rep. Delgado. "I was glad to join Ulster Executive Ryan, Senator Hinchey, and the local veteran community in expressing our deep concerns with the VA's recently proposed recommendation. I will keep fighting for the health care needs of the nearly 40,000 veterans in our district and do all I can to support them."

Rep. Delgado was joined by Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan, Hudson Valley Center for Veterans Reintegration Center President Kevin Keaveny, Vet2Vet Program Director Gavin Walters, Army Veteran and Chair of Congressman Delgado's Veterans Advisory Committee Malia DuMont, Senator Michelle Hinchey, and Sheriff Juan Figueroa.

Following the VA's announcement of their recommendation around Castle Point, Reps. Delgado and Maloney (NY-18) sent a letter expressing their concern and asking that any veteran who utilizes Castle Point will maintain equally accessible and high-quality care through a VA facility nearby before any steps are taken to close the Castle Point VAMC.
