Tonight, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) released the following statement on the House-passed legislation to stop the import of Russian oil into the United States.

"The Russian economy is closely tied to its energy exports and today's bipartisan vote sends a strong and unified message that the U.S. will not stand for Putin's inhumane war.

We must make sure that Putin faces strong consequences for his unjust and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. Banning the import of Russian oil and energy products into the U.S.; reviewing Russia's access to the World Trade Organization; and targeting the pockets of Russian oligarchs are all tools we, and our allies, must use. I was proud to join my colleagues in both parties to support these measures. Enacted together, these additional sanctions will further isolate Putin from the global economy and leave him weaker in every way.

As we work to cripple Putin's economy, we also must do everything in our power to move us towards American energy independence, which protects our national security and will lower costs for hardworking families."
