Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) issued the following statement regarding the Biden administration's announcement that it will end Title 42 in May:
"Asylum is a human right and ending Title 42 is the right thing to do. My colleagues and I have long called for an end to this discriminatory policy implemented by the Trump administration under the guise of public health. I'm pleased to see the Biden administration take this long overdue step to roll back his predecessor's cruel immigration policies and respect international norms for refugees and asylum-seekers.
"We now have the urgent duty to rebuild the infrastructure of our asylum, refugee and immigration systems that the previous administration dismantled."
