Rep. Kirkpatrick Helps Secure Over $1.1 Million for Dunbar Pavilion School Rehabilitation Project

Statement

Today, Rep. Kirkpatrick announces over $1.1 million will go directly to Dunbar Pavilion and Dunbar School as part of the City of Tucson's Arts & Culture Revitalization Initiative. This funding is part of Rep. Kirkpatrick's Community Project Funding allocations which was included in the government funding package, "Omnibus" that passed last week.

These funds will support the City of Tucson in rehabilitating the Dunbar Pavilion and Dunbar School as part of the City's Arts & Culture Revitalization Initiative. This repurposed school is on the National Register of Historic Places and holds social and cultural significance as the only segregated school in Tucson; built by Tucson Unified School District in an era of overt bigotry and discrimination as an educational facility for Tucson's Black children in grades 1-8.

Rep. Kirkpatrick's office received $573,014 for the project the remaining half was granted to the City of Tucson on behalf of Rep. Raul Grijalva's office.
