Defazio Announces $67 Million for Coos Bay N Jetty

Press Release

Date: Feb. 3, 2022

Congressman Peter DeFazio (OR-04) today announced that the Army Corps of Engineers awarded $67,710,750 to Trade West Construction to carry out full repairs on the entirety of the North Jetty.

"I have been dogged in the fight to secure much-needed funding to support the Coos Bay North Jetty for years," said Rep. DeFazio. "The jetty is in desperate need of repair, with its deterioration increasing danger for ships, boaters, and commercial fisherman alike. It also puts economic opportunity at risk. The contract awarded today by the Army Corps of Engineers will cover the full scope of repairs planned for the jetty."

The contract awarded to Trade West Construction will carry out full repairs on the entirety of the North Jetty. Congressman DeFazio made personal calls to the Army Corps of Engineers and the Biden Administration to help secure funding for the repair of the jetty in a timely manner. This contract includes both money Congressman DeFazio secured in Fiscal Year (FY) 21 and FY22 for repairs.

The Coos Bay North Jetty loses approximately 20 feet every year and has receded more than 750 feet since its construction. The Port of Coos Bay will use this funding to keep mariners out of harm's way and support the Coast Guard's ability to carry out search and rescue missions.
