Womack Responds to U.S. Ban of Russian Energy Imports

Statement

Issues: Oil and Gas

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after President Biden today announced a U.S. ban of Russian energy imports:

"Energy security is national security. President Biden's ban on Russian oil is warranted but far from a comprehensive solution. Real power comes from us creating our own. Instead of turning from one dictator to another, we should unleash American production and pursue an all-of-the-above energy approach. That means reversing the White House's policies that left us beholden to foreign adversaries and compounded the pain we've been feeling at the pump for months. True energy independence means restoring American production and dominance."

Background: President Biden's first actions in office implemented an anti-American energy posture that has contributed to skyrocketing energy prices and empowered our adversaries abroad. Congressman Womack is a cosponsor of the American Energy Independence from Russia Act and has continually called on the White House to reverse its regulatory attack on U.S. energy production, which would include actions to end the federal freeze on all new oil and gas projects, fast-track pending LNG export permits, expedite approval of all pipeline and energy development, and rescind unilateral mandates straight out of the Green New Deal playbook. The U.S. has enough energy resources to meet demand at home and support allies abroad. We became a net energy exporter during the Trump Administration, giving America economic strength and geopolitical leverage over Russia, China, Iran, and other dictatorships around the world. We have the world's largest oil and gas reserves, we can produce these energy resources more cleanly and efficiently than anywhere else in the globe, and we should produce them.
