Carter Statement on Continuing Resolution

Press Release

Date: Feb. 8, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Representative John Carter (TX-31) released the following statement after the House passed, H.R. 6617, the Short-Term Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government for an additional three weeks.

"If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, governing by continuing resolution is not good governance. It's important that good faith negotiations on the fiscal year 2022 appropriations bills continue, so that the government isn't facing an unnecessary shutdown or longer-term CR. Neither of those options are fair to our servicemembers, border patrol, or federal law enforcement and their families. Ultimately, I voted in favor of this bill to avoid a costly shutdown and provide necessary defense authority for military assistance should we be faced with threats from Russia. However, I hope this is the last continuing resolution for FY22 bills and that negotiations result in responsible appropriations bills that put the American people first."
