Senators Reverend Warnock, Ossoff, Colleagues Condemn Recent Bomb Threats Against HBCUs

U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA) joined their colleagues in helping unanimously pass a resolution to condemn the recent bomb threats at HBCUs and reaffirms the government's commitment to combatting violence against students, faculty, and staff.More than two dozen HBCUs across the country have received violent threats this year alone, including Georgia institutions Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Fort Valley State University, and Albany State University. On the first day of Black History Month, at least 14 HBCUs reported threats.

"It's bitterly ironic that students who attend HBCUs, which were born out of a time when Black students experienced constant threats for trying to get an education, are now facing a new kind of terror. I'm glad to see that the Senate was able to come together and show its strong commitment to combatting violence against HBCUs," said Senator Reverend Warnock. "As an HBCU grad myself, I know how important these places of higher learning are for our country. Last week, I met with HBCU students, faculty, and administrators at the Atlanta University Center and I heard firsthand about the anxieties HBCU communities are facing, which is why I've been working so hard to ensure the FBI and DOJ prioritize these investigations and put a swift end to these terrifying and disruptive threats."

I will continue working to ensure the DOJ and FBI are fully engaged in the investigation of these terrorist threats, and I will continue to support Georgia's HBCU community every day and in every way I can," said Senator Ossoff.

Both Senators Reverend Warnock and Ossoff have been attentive to the ongoing situations and are working with federal agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice while ensuring HBCU's future safety on campus and beyond. Additionally, Senator Reverend Warnock led a bipartisan effort with Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) pushing the FBI and DOJ to immediately prioritize their investigation of ongoing threats to the nation's HBCUs.
