Date: Feb. 15, 2022
Location: Memphis, Tennessee

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today congratulated Bishop David Hall on his appointment to the Farm Service Agency (FSA) Tennessee State Committee.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) made the announcement this afternoon.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Bishop Hall is a great choice for this important position. He knows agriculture and he knows farmers' needs. I commend Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on the selection and congratulate Bishop Hall."

The USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) state committee in Tennessee ensures the effective and efficient delivery of FSA federal farm programs to the state's agricultural producers.

Members of the FSA state committee are appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture and are responsible for the oversight of farm programs and county committee operations, resolving program delivery appeals from the agriculture community, maintaining cooperative relations with industry stakeholders, keeping producers informed about FSA programs and operating in a manner consistent with USDA equal opportunity and civil rights policies.

Bishop Hall, of Memphis, is a prelate in the Church of God in Memphis and prelate of the Tennessee Headquarters Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. He specializes in ministry for incarcerated youth. As Founder and Executive Director of Life Together, Inc., Bishop Hall provides resources to youth of all ages. In addition to his ministry work, he is an experienced producer who raises row crops on 4,500 acres. His work with underserved communities and knowledge of agriculture brings an important perspective to the Tennessee FSA State Committee.

The Farm Service Agency serves farmers, ranchers, foresters and agricultural partners through the effective, efficient and equitable delivery of federal agricultural programs. The Agency offers producers a strong safety net through the administration of farm commodity and disaster programs. Additionally, through conservation programs, FSA continues to preserve and protect natural resources and provides credit to agricultural producers who are unable to receive private, commercial credit, including targeted loan funds for beginning, underserved, women and military veterans involved in production agriculture.
