Statement

U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Alex Padilla (D-CA) applauded the Senate's unanimous passage of their bipartisan resolution celebrating the 105th anniversary of Puerto Ricans receiving United States citizenship.

"Our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico have provided invaluable contributions to our society and economy throughout the years, and we are a better nation because of it," Rubio said. "I'm proud to lead this resolution, which recognizes the historic day Puerto Ricans were rightly recognized as citizens of our nation."

"For 105 years Puerto Rico has made substantial contributions to this nation, including more than 325,000 Puerto Ricans who have honorably served our country in uniform," Heinrich said. "I'm proud to join my colleagues across the aisle to recognize our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico as we continue working to advance the will of those who call this land home."

"I'm glad to join my colleagues in recognizing 105 years of United States citizenship for the people of Puerto Rico," Scott said. "I'll always work to be a voice for the people of Puerto Rico in the United States Senate and make sure our fellow Americans on the island are treated fairly."

"Puerto Rico is an integral part of America's history and rich cultural identity," Padilla said. "On this 105th anniversary, we recognize and celebrate the many contributions Puerto Ricans have made to our country."
