Moolenaar Supports Bill to Help Law Enforcement in the Fight Against Fentanyl

Date: Feb. 18, 2022
Issues: Drugs

Congressman John Moolenaar supports legislation that would permanently make fentanyl a Schedule 1 narcotic under the Controlled Substances Act. Classification as a Schedule 1 substance for fentanyl and its analogues would increase penalties for criminals who make new and existing fentanyl substances.

"Michigan families are being affected by this deadly drug being trafficked across the southern border and smuggled into our communities. Last year, fentanyl was the leading cause of death for Americans 18-45 years old," said Moolenaar. "Making fentanyl a Schedule 1 narcotic would provide law enforcement across the country with tools necessary to stop its distribution."
