English/Español: Rubio Pays Tribute to the Memory of the Brothers to the Rescue

Date: Feb. 24, 2022
Location: Miami, FL

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement commemorating 26 years since the murder of the Brothers to the Rescue humanitarian mission by the Castro dictatorship. For years, Rubio has fought for justice following the brutal shootdown of Carlos Costa, Armando Alejandre, Jr., Mario de la Peña, and Pablo Morales.

"Today is yet another reminder of the cruel nature of the Cuban regime. 26 years ago, the dictatorship cowardly murdered four Cuban Americans as they flew over international waters conducting a humanitarian mission. Not a day goes by in which our Cuban exile community isn't reminded of the pain and anguish the criminal Castro dictatorship has inflicted on so many people. The lives of Carlos, Armando, Mario, and Pablo were not lost in vain. Rather, they epitomize the courage and valor of a generation that selflessly risked their lives as their fellow Cubans fled the tyranny of an oppressive and brutal regime. Jeanette and I unite in grief and prayer as we pay tribute to the lives of these four men lost in this tragedy."
