Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representatives Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) and John Garamendi (D-CA) issued a statement following the U.S. Senate introduction of the U.S. House-passed Ocean Shipping Reform Act (OSRA). OSRA is the first major overhaul of federal regulations for the global shipping industry in 20 years and addresses the ongoing supply chain crisis.

"American producers and exporters are struggling because foreign ocean carriers aren't playing fair," said Johnson and Garamendi. "The Ocean Shipping Reform Act is a bipartisan, effective solution to the problems facing our supply chain -- it puts American consumers and producers first. OSRA passed the House with overwhelming support. We are confident it can pass the Senate swiftly and look forward to heading to conference to reconcile the two bills."

The Ocean Shipping Reform Act passed the U.S. House in December by 364-60. OSRA is supported by more than 360 national groups and businesses and prohibits ocean carriers from unreasonably declining opportunities for U.S. exports. The Senate version of the bill was introduced by Senators John Thune (R-S.D.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).
