Marco Rubio: It's long past time that Congress fights for veterans
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)

For America's military veterans, coming home isn't always the end of the battle.
When many of our fighting men and women leave the service, they run up against bureaucratic headwinds that prevent them from accessing their hard-earned benefits….

That is why, in 2017, I wrote and passed the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act. That law paved the way for sweeping reforms throughout the VA, empowered the VA secretary to actually fire negligent employees, and created meaningful safeguards for government whistleblowers who previously had been liable to retaliation from their superiors….

Meanwhile, my bipartisan Supporting Veterans in STEM Careers Act, which passed in 2019, is helping veterans pursue good jobs in science and technology….

The work to take care of America's veterans isn't over, though. I'm still fighting every day to get veterans who are suffering from prior exposure to burn pits and other toxic environments the care we owe them for serving their country….

I'm also working with Sen. Thom Tillis, R-North Carolina, to make it easier for the tens of thousands of veterans and families harmed by water contamination at Camp Lejeune to bring their cases to court….

Veterans who have answered the call to serve and sacrificed so much on their country's behalf deserve the best from their government. These men and women fought for us, and it's long past time to fight for them….
