Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement after President Joe Biden delivered his State of the Union address to a Joint Session of Congress:

"Tonight, our nation and the entire world saw President Biden's resolve that Democracy will prevail over autocracy. America's commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and to the Ukrainian people remains ironclad. The Congress stands behind President's determined leadership in strengthening the Allied response against Russia's premeditated, unprovoked war against Ukraine.

"And tonight, in his State of the Union Address, President Biden delivered a powerful message of progress, empathy and hope for America's working families.

"President Biden's first year has set new records for jobs created, small businesses started, economic growth and shrinking unemployment, despite the hardships caused by the pandemic. With the help of our American Rescue Plan, the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats have created a record 6.6 million jobs, ensured children can return safely to school and given our nation the tools to turn the corner on the COVID crisis.

"We know there is more work to be done. The President spoke powerfully to the kitchen table issues facing America's working families and Democrats' plans to lower their costs. With the President's leadership, we will make more goods in America, lower the everyday costs of energy, child care, prescription drugs and more, bolster competition to deliver better prices for consumers, and create more good-paying union jobs across the country.

"Together, President Biden and Democrats are Building a Better America."
