Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), a member of the House Armed Services Committee and 30-year Army veteran, released the following statement on the successful counterterrorism operation by U.S. military forces which resulted in the death of Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi -- the leader of ISIS:

"I salute our brave special forces for successfully carrying out this dangerous mission, taking down ISIS' leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi to make the region and the world a safer place. I also commend President Biden's leadership and decisiveness in continuing the fight against the Islamic State and the global threat of terrorism. Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi is responsible for the bombing at Kabul's airport which killed 13 servicemembers and 170 Afghan civilians, he led the genocide and enslavement of the Yazidi people. The raid today brought justice to al-Hashimi for his many crimes.

"U.S. forces and our allies have dismantled much of the Islamic State's formerly occupied territory, and we must continue our vigilance and operations to combat terror networks and protect our homeland, our allies and the lives of innocent civilians. Today was a victory, but we have more fights ahead."
