Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today voted to pass the Postal Service Reform Act (H.R. 3076), legislation that will stabilize the U.S. Postal Service and improve its ability to reliably deliver services for the future.

"Passage of this legislation is welcome news for Marylanders who have seen record backlogs, mail delays and incidents of lost mail for years. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans have increasingly relied on the U.S. Postal Service to deliver prescriptions, Social Security checks, absentee ballots and COVID-19 tests. Postal employees have worked tirelessly to maintain consistent service but growing demands and insufficient financial resources have driven it to the edge of disaster.

"I have long called for reforms to improve the U.S. Postal Service's effectiveness and fix its financial issues. The Postal Service Reform Act will restructure the institution's financial obligations, allowing it to keep its commitments to retirees and increase transparency into its delivery standards while also ensuring it remains solvent for the future. I am proud to support this legislation which does right by this institution, its public servants and the American people who deserve high-quality, on-time deliveries."
