RUPPERSBERGER ISSUES STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF TROOP DEPLOYMENT

Statement

Date: Feb. 4, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, a member of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, today issued the following statement after reviewing intelligence reports and receiving a briefing from the Secretaries of Defense and State, the Director of National Intelligence and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the Administration's response to Russia's demands for Ukraine:

"I support the President's decision made earlier this week to deploy 3,000 American troops to some of our closest allies in Europe. This is being done for the prevention of conflict -- not the provocation. The Administration also sent top cybersecurity officials to Brussels to ensure we are supporting our allies in all domains. The United States must uphold our obligations to NATO member-countries and partners. At its core, NATO's political and military alliances exist to promote the peaceful resolution of disputes in the North Atlantic and we must stay steadfast on supporting this principle. I will continue to monitor this issue closely."
