Statement from Governor Kathy Hochul on the Passage of The America COMPETES Act

Statement

Date: Feb. 4, 2022
Location: Albany, NY

"I applaud the House of Representatives for passing the America COMPETES Act, which includes the $52 billion CHIPS Act to grow the domestic microchip industry and help the U.S. regain its economic edge while addressing supply chain issues and the global chip shortage. New York has been investing in growing this industry for years, and we're ready to meet this moment and continue creating jobs in this sector. I recently met with Senator Schumer, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves and industry leaders in Albany to urge the House to act and to proudly show off the Albany Nanotech Complex as the best location for the new National Semiconductor Technology Center. I join President Biden in urging the House and Senate to swiftly reach a final agreement on this critical legislation so it can be signed into law and help New York as we continue to drive the nation's innovation economy forward."
