Congressman Keller's remarks as prepared:

THANK YOU, CHAIRWOMAN MALONEY, RANKING MEMBER COMER, AND TO OUR WITNESSES FOR TAKING THE TIME TO JOIN US.

WHILE TODAY'S HEARING SEEMINGLY ATTEMPTS TO HOLD THE AMERICAN ENERGY INDUSTRY ACCOUNTABLE TO CARBON EMISSIONS STANDARDS WITH TIMELINES EXPIRING 30 YEARS IN THE FUTURE, IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE THE DEMOCRATS HOLD THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE ENERGY CRISIS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.

IN OCTOBER OF 2021, COMMITTEE REPUBLICANS JOINED ME IN SENDING A LETTER TO ENERGY SECRETARY GRANHOLM, EXPRESSING CONCERNS THAT PRESIDENT BIDEN'S POLICIES WOULD EXACERBATE THE SKYROCKETING PRICE OF FUEL AND ULTIMATELY HIT FIXED AND LOW-INCOME AMERICANS HARDEST, MAKING AMERICA MORE RELIANT ON NATIONS THAT DON'T PRODUCE ENERGY AS CLEANLY AS WE DO HERE IN THE UNITED STATES.

NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO PENALIZE AMERICAN ENERGY PRODUCERS WHO HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO PROVIDE THE ENTIRE WORLD WITH CLEANER ENERGY IN THE MIDST OF AN ENERGY CRISIS.

A RECENT REPORT BY THE JOINT ECONOMIC COMMITTEE CONFIRMED COMMITTEE REPUBLICANS' FEARS, REPORTING THAT AMERICAN HOUSEHOLDS SPENT 1,200 DOLLARS MORE ON ENERGY COSTS IN 2021.

I ASK FOR UNANIMOUS CONSENT TO SUBMIT THE JEC'S REPORT TO THE RECORD.

Background:

October 28, 2021: Congressman Keller and House Oversight and Reform Committee Republicans sent a letter to U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm requesting a briefing on how the Biden administration plans to combat the skyrocketing price of fuel, energy, and projected heating costs for this upcoming winter.

Later that day, Congressman Keller reiterated these same concerns during an Oversight and Reform Committee hearing on the Biden administration's systemic effort to dismantle America's oil and natural gas industry.
